ANOTHER DAY OF INFAMY, SEPT. 11, 2001

Early Tuesday morning,
Death rained from the sky.
Horror filled our minds,
As we tried to fathom why.

An enemy carefully planned
To deliver a fatal blow,
To destroy our towers, they burned, then crashed below.
Life for so many changed
And will never be the same.
Terror took on new meaning
So many lives it did claim.
Our country mourns, so many died,
We've cried so many tears,
Yet life goes on, even while we grieve
And recognize all our fears.

What next? we wonder.
It's hard to not live in dread,
But, to live our lives, to forge ahead,
This is how we honor all the dead.

Joan says, " I wrote this new piece just after writing a poem called, "A DAY OF INFAMY" about Pearl Harbor for a project my grandson was doing for school. I frequently write things for my grandchildren but always find that for me they have a much wider use. The first three lines of both pieces are almost identical except for the day of the week they occurred on."
