MOUNTAIN CLIMBER
It isn't always easy
To leave your dreams behind
And concentrate on
Those you love:
Their cares
And needs
To mind.
Dreams of recognition,
The mark you wish to make,
Replaced by sweat and toil
Could be a big mistake.
When the spirit of adventure
Romantic, bold and gay
Looms into view
And beckons you,
Should you refuse
And stay?
Once upon the mountain top
You may gaze about the view
And see the trail
You did not seek
Is overgrown.
You alone
Will feel inside
The conquest of the peak,
And the memories
That languish
In the valley
Of your
Mind.
Lee adds this comment, "The only thing useful about looking back is not to change one's path but to use the past as landmarks to help direct us on the present path."
